Zinc and Aluminium Anodes

CORROSION AND CATODIC PROTECTION

Steel and all other metal structures which, because of construction, environment or operational reasons remain immersed in sea or brackish water for long periods of time, are subjected to galvanic corrosion attacks. To reduce or eliminate demage caused by corrosion, cathodic protection is undoubtedly the most effective and cheapest one.

To make protection effective, the anode has to be in direct contact with the ground, perfectly clean and free of rust or paint. Anode consumption changes accordingly to water salinity and to the closeness to other ferrous objects such as boats, docks with metal parts or submersed bodies etc. It's advisable to periodically check that the metal masses do not have suffered corrosion and to replaceme the anodes when wear exceeds 50% of their original weight.

As alternative to the traditional zinc anodes, G.F.N. proposes a new range of ALUMINIUM ANODES already installed as standard by the most important outboard, inboard and i/o engines manufacturers.

Aluminium anodes differ from others for the following features:

MORE LIGHTWEIGHT, which means significant fuel savings for transport and manageability for installation;

EFFICIENCY AND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT their longer life and better protection reduce the quantity of the necessary anodes, increasing the intervals between replacements;

ECO-FRIENDLY sincethe components of aluminium anode DO NOT CONTAIN CADMIUM, used in the production of zinc anodes, and the other two components used (aluminum and indium) are non-toxic.

The reference number of the ALUMINIUM anode is identified with letter A after the code.

Example:
Code 683000 - zinc anode
Code 683000A - same anode model but ALLUMINIUM version.
